The South African Construction Awards are a night for top SA companies to shine, a celebration of the “best of the best” in the sector. Every year, this well-attended event honors outstanding construction projects constructed by South African businesses. The appropriate conclusion is an exquisite banquet held in November of each year to honor the winners.

Over 500 of South Africa’s top clients and contractors gathered for the 15th annual South African Construction Awards, an amazing evening of celebration, acknowledgment, and networking.

The South African Construction Awards are acknowledged as the premier yearly occasion for the country’s construction industry by all in the industry.The Awards celebrate outstanding achievements by companies and individuals in the South African building and construction industry.

Among the speakers representing the government department and the speaker of the day was Mr. Sihle Zikalala, Minister of Public Development and Infrastructure. In his address at the South African Construction Industry Awards (SACAS), Minister firstly congratulated the winners who have made a significant impact on the construction industry with their groundbreaking ideas, innovative solutions, and commitment to sustainability.

He went on to emphasise the issue of the principles of transformation which should govern both the private and the public sector.

Acknowledging that while there are black business people who genuinely need economic transformation in the construction industry, there are other entities that extort and commit crime.

Further saying the practice of ‘extortionism’ within the Construction Industry not only hinders infrastructure investment and economic growth but also jeopardises the development of essential skills for the future, as fewer young people are inclined to pursue careers in the built environment due to various concerns, including safety.

On his address he closed by saying the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is working closely with law enforcement to treat ‘extortionism’ in the construction industry as a priority crime because it does not only sabotage the economy but also puts people’s lives and livelihoods at risk. And lastly he expressed his gratitude to all the women who attended the event, especially to Mpho Modise and Vuyokazi Njongwe, who continue to uplift the status of women in the construction industry, and expressed hope for further improvements in this area.

Best Property Developer of the year- Billion Group

Chairman’s Choice of the Year Award-Collen Mashawana ( Afribiz Investment Pty Ltd)

Best Construction Leader of the year- Dr. Sisa Ngebulana (Billion Group)

Best CEO of the year- Brian Mpono ( Edison Power Group)

Best Woman in Property Development-Vuyokazi Njongwe ( Commercial Director at Billion Group)

Best Contractor of the year- Edison Power Group
